New Blog Story Introduction - Test of Freedom

The next online novel starts posting Monday! (Series has started, Intro and TOC.)

Sorry I didn't get any art done in time for this post.  I hope to get a "cover" done this weekend, and I'll add it here, as well as on the permanent info post for the series.

Title: Test of Freedom (Book 2 in The Adventures of Mary Alwyn series.)

Genre: Melodrama, Alternate World (non-magical), Adventure.

Blurb:  When Jackie Alwyn, firebrand of the Acton Revolution, is arrested for treason and transported to the hellish island of Sabatine, nothing will stop his notorious wife from getting him back.  The only question is whether Jackie can stay out of trouble long enough for Mary to find him.

Setting/Series: New Acton is an alternate world, based on the fuzzy, mythic view of history you get from melodrama, early film and children's stories.

When I originally wrote the story, I wanted it to feel a little unreal and theatrical -- with a broad, stylized backdrop, like on stage.  Any resemblance to real history or real places is purely philosophical.  Imagine that the costumes are from the American Revolution stockroom, and the accents of the Actonians are vaguely Scottish (hey, I was influenced by Robert Louis Stevenson, okay?) and you've probably covered the entire world-building effort right there.

Rating: PG-13-ish.  This series is a little more adult, a little darker, maybe, than my other blogstory series.  It's not Dark (I don't do Dark), but it's less appropriate for kids. Mature kids, sure, and it's not nearly as dark as what teens today read. Just sayin'....

Posting Schedule: This serial will post episodes on Mondays and Thursdays at 8am Eastern Time. It will start October 15, and is expected to run until mid-March. (The story is done, but I'm still tweaking some of the breaks between episodes.)

The First Book Available FREE until November!

The first book in this series is The Wife of Freedom. (More about that here.)  It is possible to read this second story without reading the first, however, to help you avoid spoilers, and give you a fuller experience of the story, I have decided to make the first book available for FREE on Smashwords until Thanksgiving Day.

These vendors should match the price within a couple of weeks: Barnes and Noble, Sony, Deisel, and Kobo.  Any of them may or may not keep the free price for a while after the sale ends. Amazon may or may not ever match the free price -- but the book is available for sale there: Amazon Kindle Store, and Amazon international stores: UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain.  Smashwords, of course, offers a Kindle compatible Mobi file.

(For those who don't want to read the first, I will create an info post for the series with some spoiler info.)

See you in the funny papers.

I'm going to definitely have to pick up the wife of freedom and read it. I really enjoyed your last serial. I do hope we'll eventually get to see George Starling make an appearance as a blog serial too. ;)

Oh, dear. You do realize that George and Karla can't have a conversation which lasts for less than 3000 words, don't you?

All the same, your "make and appearance" line inspires me a little. A favorite trope of mine is the mystery suspense story with a guest protagonist and the main characters get to be "Paragon" impact characters in the background.

Anyway, I'll keep an eye out for possible shorter stories that could be serialized.

Mick and Casey, on the other hand, are very suited to serialization....
