(Or they read and listen at the same time when they want it to be.)

That's one of the reasons I was surprised to realize how much I listen. I also don't retain as well as I expect to with reading.

And then I realized that my listening has a lot to do with context. I listen to radio shows and television, while cooking or doing other things, and I don't mind if I miss something. It's background noise.... except now that I don't actually have a TV which literally gives me background noise I don't want to hear, I now listen to background noise that I really enjoy.

I suppose that goes back to listening to Prairie Home Companion. It's a variety show, so there's music and chatter. And when Garrison Keillor starts telling stories, his voice is so beautiful and peaceful, I start to fall asleep... and then I hear him say something about a tipping boat and the forty-seven visiting ministers falling into the lake, and I go "wait... what?" and I wake up again.

I should write a post about that, actually....The Daring Novelisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01676188266569869059noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3982837118358902227.post-18194291823164867952014-12-04T01:02:27.164-05:002014-12-04T01:02:27.164-05:00It's true, podcasts and audiobooks are huge no...It's true, podcasts and audiobooks are huge now. Not so much for me, my aural retention for the spoken word is just about zilch - I hear and understand, then it's gone from my brain, in one ear and out the other. (as opposed to music; you wouldn't be interested in singing your podcasts, would you? :-D) But I seem to be the exception; lots of people love listening. Good luck with this new venture!Kyra Hallandhttp://www.kyrahalland.comnoreply@blogger.com
